I've heard that ibuprofen can make your period lighter. Can you take ibuprofen if you are in no pain?

Ok, so I have a swimming party tomorrow, and I happen to be on my 'monthly gift.' I've also heard that ibuprofen makes your period lighter. Is that true? And if so, can you take it if you are in no pain? Because my period is sort of heavy and I am not comfortable using tampons yet, but I also have very little PMS, so I'm not sure if I can use ibuprofen. Please help me!!
